Monday Mornings are always fun

Happy Monday!

I had to take a minute to write because I just happened upon a "Mikaela Moment."

On this particular Monday, Graeme was up at 530am. Mikaeala decided to sleep into unti 645am. When she got up and was ready to snuggle and watch some Sprout in bed with me, Graeme had been in the room for awhile and was ready to venture into other parts of the house. I was happy to go with him because I was sick of him throwing fits over not being able to open the minifridge. Thanks Shelley for the babyproofing tip.

So, Graeme and I ventured out into the main living area while Emme snuggled into the big bed. I checked on her a few times and the last time I looked in on her she wasn't there. I found her in the bathroom with a spounge, squirting hand soap all over Dave's vanity.

Emme, what are you doing?

I'm helping you clean Mama.

Thanks, but I got it. Come eat some breakfast.

Happy Monday everyone. Hope you have some good clean fun planned today (corny, I know)!

Since I last wrote...

which I think was at the end of February, time has flown by. We're officially into Spring now and the weather has been great, except for today which is why I decided to sit down and write. There's no sunshine calling for us to come and play.

Here's a couple of months in photos:

Patapsco State Park @ the Tire Playground

We were first introduced to this very cool playground made mostly of recycled tires by a new friend from school. We go quite often for play dates and birthday parties. It's in a beautiful park with hiking trails and there's even a little nature center, which we're looking forward to checking out when it re-opens in May.

Mikaela likes to go "super fast" on the tire swing. This mostly ensures that no other kids will ride with her.

Mikaela is still taking a gym class although we don't care for the facility or program that much. It's what we have while we're living in the city and she seems to enjoy it. She's still a climber and getting more mischevious as the months go by.

Graeme also attended the gym for a few short weeks. This is a shot from his first time on the trampoline. Unlike Mikaela he doesn't have an interest in the program just yet. So, we pulled him out and now while Emme has time with Daddy at the gym on Sat morning Graeme and I clean house, go grocery shopping, and take bike rides. He seems to really enjoy the one on one time with me. Now if only he could get some with Dave...

The boys sneaking a moment to read (Graeme's favorite thing to do, he'll follow us around with books forever until we read to him)

He loves Eric Carl books and also touch and feel books that help learn what things are. We are using flashcards with him now, which makes me think of my Grandpa Harvey. During one of my last conversations with him he told me I should do them with Mikaela. I did of course and I'm going to attribute her incredible ability to converse all day long to all that time I spent on the floor reading and flashing cards at her. Thanks Gramps!

We have a nice garden at our residence, actually it's a formal garden, perfect for quiet activities like blowing bubbles. Graeme's been praticing his fine motor skills and can take the wand into the bubble container. He can also stick a straw into a juice box and up his nose. We're waiting for the day when something gets stuck up his nose. He's always trying to put stuff up it.

Mikaela is still as creative as ever. The other night we left her alone for a few minutes with some blue chalk and had some new art work on the walls of her room. That was the first time we've had to clean walls, but we've been cleaning her for awhile now.

When I asked what she was doing here, she told me she had painted some gloves

And this one I just call body art because what else can you call it when your kid strips and paints herself. I hope this is not a sign of things to come...

These shots was taken after I'd left her for a few minutes to unload the dishwasher. Unfortunately we have a closed off kitchen so when I'm in there there's potential for lots of michief to take place.

We're making lots of new friends here in Baltimore. One of favorite places to meet people is at the Zoo. It has some nice exhibits and provides great exercise.

One of Graeme's favorite things to do is get into my drawers. Since we're renting we haven't been able to baby proof much and sometimes (let's face it, most times) I forget to zip up my make up bag. So, when I get in the shower he knows there's not much I can do if he starts snooping around.

Note- lipstick and chalk are equally difficult to wipe off surfaces.

Little miss sunshine

Bubble Baby

City living with two kids is easy and not easy. There is always something to do whether you have friends to do it with or not. We regularly visit the children's museum, the science center, and aquarium. We ride bikes on the harbor promenade and get ice cream. We walk to Federal Hill and play at the park that's usually filled with children.

Sometimes though I long for the suburbs and the ability to toss the kids in the yard with a sprinkler or to sit and watch them play in a wading pool from the pation. I thought I was pretty smart to come up with a bit of a solution that involved filling all the useless containers we have around with water and putting them on the balcony table, instant "Water Table" and at least an hour of entertainment that involves staying home.

Both Graeme and Mikaela have accomplished some major developmental milestones.

Graeme is using utensils although not all the time. He is also beefing up his vocabulary.

Favorite words are: Dance, Sit, Stand, Jump, This/What's this. He doesn't use many nouns, but the pediatrician says that's okay and he's slightly ahead of the curve on his language skills. That's good cause she's still watching his head size. It's huge as is he. 35.5 inches, that's almost 3 feet and not even 2 yet, and he weighs 32 lbs and change.

Mikaela is a beanpole in comparison weighing in at 33 lbs and just over 41 inches tall. She has now added the letter "A" to the letters she can write. Last I wrote she only had M under her belt. She is also drawing people, beautiful neckless people!

And when it comes to Dave and I we're doing well. Dave is busy with work but thanks to our parents we have been able to get a way a bit as a couple either for date nights or a even a weekend away in the mountains. We have also broken ground on a new home in Ellicott City. Foundation has been poured.

Just because they're cute
