Top Rack

This week is off to a good start. Kiddos slept past 6AM and we had a fun play date with a friend of Mikaela's from school. Both napping now- NICE!

While I get ready for the day Mikaela likes to play in my closet. When she was really little we didn't have a dresser in the closet and our clothes were just folded nicely on a built in shelf. When Mikaela started pulling everything off the shelves we brought in the dresser, then when she started taking everything out of the drawers I started hanging everything up.

Now most of my clothes are hung up. Pants and loungewear on the bottom rack since she has no interest in those things. Shirt, tanks, and dresses on the top rack. Those are the items that Mikaela can't keep her hands away from.

These past two days she's figured out she can reach while standing on her tiptoes and pull the very bottom of my tops. She loves to put my tops on as dresses and parade around the house in them sometimes adding shoes.

This habit was very cute at first, but now it's one of the more annoying things she does because I never know what's clean and dirty seeing as she takes stuff from the laundry basket as well. There are always clothes all over the house

And now she streching out my shirts. Just another reason for me to keep wearing the same old stuff, I guess.

There's another top rack in the house that Mikaela has recently developed an obsession over and that's boobs. We have a lot of friends that have recently had babies and so Mikaela's been very exposed to breastfeeding, starting of course with me when Graeme was born, so this is only natural.

Despite that it's shocking sometimes to hear such a little person talking about such things. This morning I was really caught off guard when I found her parading around the house in one of my nightgowns- Patricia, it was the green, frog one from you- and she suddenly stuffed her baby Ariel down and it and , "she's sucking on my little boobies."

Oh my, I think I could use a rack of ribs and some beers.

Hot Potato

I've been thinking about writing this post since Saturday, but life has gotten in the way. This has been a great week starting with many mornings of past 6 wake ups and nice long afternoon naps. Yay Hochberg babies!!!

Mikaela is really a funny, silly little girl. On Saturday, we took her out to lunch at Potbelly. Mikaela always gets the same thing, which she only sometimes eats- a pj untoasted. If it's toasted she definitely won't eat it. We usually get two bags of chips to share between us and I swear Mikaela will eat both if we let her. She LOVES chips!

Dave chose some spicy cajun flavored kettle chips. I always get BBQ or plain so that Mikaela and I can share. This particular Saturday Emme was very interested in Dave's chips. We kept saying they're hot, you probably won't like them.

After telling her that they were hot for the 3rd time she began to blow in the bag saying "they're warm now, not hot."

Ok, Mikaela- you can have some if want. Go ahead try them, but I promise you they're still HOT!

She tried them and said "they're not hot, they're cold." and then all of a sudden she said "OW."

Whoops- I guess we should have used our usual term "spicy" instead of hot. At least she learned a new definition of the word.

Astronomer

When I was a little girl my dad used to take me outside to look at the night sky. As I get older I remember less and less about my childhood, which is sad because it was cool and filled with all kinds of adventures, but these nights with my dad still stand out in my mind.

On our trip to VA there were a few things that my dad did that reminded me of spending time with him when I was a little girl. While he didn't pull out the telescope because Mikaela's just a bit too young still, he did take her out on the deck two nights to look at the bright, big, beautiful moon with binoculars.

I didn't get the greatest pictures of this particular moment, but I have to share because they bring back a great memory of my dad spending quality time with me as a child.

I can't wait till he takes her out to see Mars and Venus. Thanks Dad, you're the greatest.

Our little naturalist

I'm amazed daily by how much Mikaela loves nature. She's always on the look out for flowers, birds, animals, etc... After our vacation to Grand Cayman we went to DC to spend a week with our families.

It was so nice to be there for longer than a weekend. Even nicer to be able to spend a lot of time outside in a beautiful place. For all Houstons pluses, it has two big minunes, the weather (more for Dave than me) and the lack of beauty. In my opinion it's a REALLY ugly place.

While in Virginia we took a lot of walks. Mikaela loved them. Chipmunks were her favorite thing to search for. She also helped my mom take care of her small plot of land. Check out that cool watering can!

Goldilocks gets a trim

Yesterday didn't start out too hot. I had been up with Mikaela at 315am, Dave got up to run around 4am, then Graeme woke for that day at 5AM so I was super tired and not expecting a lot out of the day. We had plans to meet some friends for swimming, but I just didn't have the energy to be in the sun and water so we cancelled, but then I had to figure out something else to do preferrably something that involved another individually entertaining my "always on" little girl.

So, Mikaela got her first hair cut. Right now she's very interested in brushing hair and putting on make up so I thought she'd love the experience. I'm not sure she loved it while it was happening but afterwards she told everyone she saw all about it.

I have to say that I was a little afraid that cutting her beautiful golden curls would cause them to go straight, but she's still got 'em- HURRAY!

This was the tv that played a cartoon all about getting a hair cut

Graeme liked it more than Emme

Notice the lollipop, Mikaela was a little too concerned to eat it

A little more relaxed

All finished and looking super cute, complete with braid. Thanks Snip-its for making Emme's 1st hair cut so fun.

6 months

Graeme was officially 6 months on the 8th of June. Boy does time fly. We went for his 6 month check up this past week and he's doing great. He's no longer in the 100 percentile, now he's only in the 99th. Still a big boy, but doc said that's fine seeing as he's big all around and not in one particular area.

Graeme now tops the charts at a whopping 24.5 lbs. I'm not sure how long he is, my friend Kyra and I have been discussing what I thought was his length, but I must have heard wrong so I'm not disclosing. I think they said his head circumfrance was 19. something inches. It's big and beautiful! I love to kiss it.

He's eating solid foods and cereal 3xs daily now. Pushing up and rolling are his favorite things to do. I see crawling in our very near future. Boy is he a talker. He loves to hear himself babble and so do we.

I just told Dave this morning, and I may have said it here before, that if all babies came just like Graeme we'd have a house full. He's super baby, always happy, snuggly, easy going. What luck that we have him in our lives!

Learning to hold a bottle

I have to say that he's not really that into this trick. He'd much rather be snuggled while eating.

Rolling around with his buddy Rhys on vacation (they're only 2 weeks apart & both wonderful little guys)

Chillin' with Grandma Christine

All smiles

Gorilla Graeme

Reaching this major milestone (sitting) is going to change my life. I will be able to grocery shop and run errands without wearing him. My back CAN'T wait!

Vacation

Today I've been playing catch up. My house is now clean and organized for the most part, the pest control guy has come and gone, the plumber has fixed our water heater so we can all shower, all our clothes have been unpacked, laundry is washing & drying, the kiddos are back on schedule (fingers crossed), and we've begun to see our friends. Life is grand.

And, so was our vacation in Grand Cayman. Thanks to a friend of ours we were lucky enough to stay in a great villa on the property of the Ritz Carlton. It was an awesome place! We had more than enough room for our family and the Becker clan (Meg, Eric, Kyson, & Rhys). The kids got a long great, we had some fabulous dinners out, did some scuba diving (well Dave did, I had to evacute the water), and took the older tots out on a boat to snorkel and swim with sting rays.

All in all it was an incredible trip. I only have a few pics on my camera. Who know that we'd need a water proof camera for an island beach vacation?! Meg took most of the photos on hers and I still need to get her to send them my way. Until then, here are some teasers...

Our Pool

Emme & Kyson

The view, while not of the beautiful Carribean, was not too shabby

The living room came equipped with all the infant necessities you could ask for

Mikaela & Rhys getting acquainted with the excersaucers

The resident gekko (so tiny)

and our friend the frog

and of course, a highlight of the trip, swimming with the rays at Sting Ray city. Yes, I know what happened to Steve Irwin...
